Fair Pricing Access for Small Farmers
Small farmers face unfair pricing for their produce
Inadequate support for small farmers to access fair pricing is largely due to market access barriers and information asymmetry. Small farmers often lack direct connections to markets, resulting in dependency on intermediaries. Additionally, there's a deficiency in technological infrastructure and institutional support, which hampers efficient price discovery and dissemination mechanisms.
Schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) and e-National Agricultural Market (eNAM) aim to address pricing issues. However, challenges such as inadequate digital infrastructure and farmer awareness limit their effectiveness. Connectivity and training remain bottlenecks, impeding full implementation.
A strategic intervention using [ INTV 4 ] and [ INTV 5 ] includes developing a Citizen Feedback App and Government Systems Monitoring App that provide real-time market data, AI-driven price analytics, and transparent transaction records for farmers. Additionally, a [ INTV 7 ] systemic resilience support system could enhance alternative market avenues and skill development, addressing propagation challenges without directly referencing governance mechanisms.
Over the mid-term, the intervention can evolve to include more comprehensive SOPs and integrate with local agricultural bodies, expanding its structural maturity and institutional reach.
In the long-term, the intervention could scale to encompass a broader agricultural ecosystem, facilitating policy integration and fostering innovation in market access technologies.
This solution positions India as a global leader in agricultural transparency and market access within 5–10 years, setting benchmarks for fair pricing systems worldwide.
Potential risks include technology adoption barriers and data privacy concerns. To mitigate these, [ INTV 5 ] could be enhanced with stronger data protection protocols, and [ INTV 6 ] could be introduced to increase awareness and trust among farmers. Additional [ INTV 2 ] may optimize user interface designs for better accessibility.
